I have spent years searching out the best beauty products that work either specifically with my skin type, or for darn near everyone across the board. Below are my favorite beauty products that I’ve discovered over the years. I try not to keep too many products on hand, but these favorites always have a place in my home!
The Mighty Patch is a miracle worker for people like me who still struggle with adult acne. I’ve had it make a blemish completely disappear overnight. Even when it doesn’t disappear completely, it does reduce the redness and pain. I always keep a stash of these on hand!
Oil is so beneficial for your complexion. It helps moisturize your skin, balance the natural oils (which actually helps reduce breakouts!), and it even breaks down dirt, make up, and other impurities to keep your skin clean. It can even help your lashes grow longer! I use this jojoba oil every night after washing my face. I’ll be honest, I don’t like the feel of oil under my makeup so I don’t use it in the mornings, but it feels amazing at night. Jojoba oil absorbs quickly so you don’t have to worry about it rubbing off on your pillow or clothing. It also works great as a carrier oil for essential oils!
I tried so many natural deodorants before discovering Bali Secrets and it was love at first use! Normal deodorants purchased in store often contain harmful ingredients, such as aluminum and other chemicals that can increase the risk of breast cancer and hormonal imbalances. Many of the natural deodorants I tried contained baking soda, which irritated my skin and caused insane itchiness. Bali Secrets doesn’t irritate my skin and best of all – it lasts all day! I never need to reapply, so one tube lasts me about 2 months (which helps justify the increased cost)!
Did you know that most witch hazel purchased in-store contains alcohol? That means every time you use it, you are stripping your skin of its natural oils and drying it out. Thayers witch hazel is alcohol free and will make your skin feel so fresh. I use it after I wash my face in the evenings and before I moisturize. A little goes a long way so it lasts a really long time. Plus, like the jojoba oil, you can add essential oils such as frankincense to increase the benefits to your skin.
This bar soap is delicate enough to use on your face and because it contains Shea butter, it adds moisture rather than stripping it away like most bar soaps. It contains a blend of frankincense and myrrh to improve your complexion. Frankincense is an anti-aging essential oil, helping reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Myrrh is another essential oil with antimicrobial properties, aiding in the healing of scars and the reduction of other skin impurities (such as acne). One bar of this soap lasts me a few months or more, so it is well worth the price tag!
This body spray was all the rage when I was a teenager, and yet years later I still love it. I am very sensitive to scents and perfumes tend to have a sharp smell to them. This spray is very subtle, more like a musk, and I know very few people who dislike the smell of vanilla. Not only is it a warm, calming scent for me, but it is subtle and not overwhelming for those around me. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people compliment me on this perfume!
This is the only shampoo we use in our house on a daily basis. It is gentle enough for the girls, contains no harmful chemicals, smells great, and doubles as a body wash! Hubby and I also use it because it is non-drying and works great for both our hair types. I love knowing that we are reducing the harmful chemicals in our daily products where we can. Full disclosure: if you have a Costco nearby, it is about $5 cheaper for the 2 pack than it is online. However, if you don’t have one near you, this is a great option as it also comes with free shipping!
These facial sponges are wonderful for exfoliation! I keep mine in the shower and use it every few days. Each side has a different texture – one that is softer for your face and one that is firmer for the rest of your body. It is gentle and can be reused for as long as it holds up (I’ve had mine for about a year or so now). My skin feels so refreshed and clean after using this!
L’Occitane is my all-time favorite hand cream. I am super picky when it comes to hand lotion because I don’t like it to linger. This hand cream absorbs super fast, leaving my hands silky smooth and re-moisturized. It comes in amazing scents and is the perfect travel size for a purse or overnight bag. Because a little goes a long way, this stuff lasts quite a long time, making the somewhat higher cost worth it. It comes in various sizes, scents, and if you really feel like treating yourself, a 10 piece gift set available here (I have it and LOVE it!).
For me, two of the most relaxing things in the world are a hot bath and the smell of lavender. This soaking solution allows me to experience both at the same time. The salts dissolve quickly so you don’t experience any of that gritty feel that can sometimes accumulate on the bottom of the bath tub. These salts have put me to sleep more than once! I also use Dr. Teal’s Foaming Bath, which is a nice alternative to the salts.
If you have never tried a facial cleaning brush, you are missing out! These brushes deep clean and gently exfoliate your skin. They are gentle enough for daily use, and this particular set is cordless and waterproof so you can use it in the shower. The scrubbing action cleans your pores, removing dirt, makeup, and oil. The exfoliation helps reduce wrinkles and other fine lines, renewing your skin’s texture. Plus, it’s WAY cheaper than a Clarisonic, which will cost you upwards of $100!
I hate promoting an aerosol product because I know how harmful they are for the environment, but I can’t live without this hairspray. The hold is ridiculously strong, holding even the slipperiest of hair wisps in place. My hair is so fine and slippery that not much works, but it’s no match for this spray. It does not create the helmet head look that many products cause and not much is needed to achieve the desired style.
So I know this one is a little gross, but most people don’t even think of including their tongue in their dental hygiene routine. Bacteria that causes tooth decay and bad breath live on your tongue, and brushing can often just move that bacteria around. Using a designated tongue cleaner ensures that the bacteria actually gets removed. The first time I used one of these I was amazed at how much came off. Totally gross, but a necessary step in oral health!
Don’t you hate it when you can’t get the last of a favorite product out of the bottle, even though there’s some left? It is such a waste – both of product and money! Enter the Spatty & Spatty Daddy. It is able to reach down into a bottle and get every last drop! I first learned about this product on Shark Tank and Hubby put it in my stocking one year for Christmas. While it’s not a daily-use product, I do use it when my lotions and creams get low and I can no longer shake or pump them out of the bottle. This is a lifesaver for your bathroom!
I’m not going to lie, this looks like a cheese grater. It probably IS a cheese grater, just marketed for feet. But man, does it work. I have tried the Ped Egg, pumice stones, and professional pedicures, and nothing has removed my calluses as well as this thing. If you need to get your feet spring-time ready, this little gadget will do the trick!
This spray is a miracle in a bottle. I purchased it years ago for my wedding day in order to keep my makeup set and shine to a minimum. I wanted to enjoy my wedding, not worry about my makeup! Though I don’t use it daily, I do use it when I want to look my best with minimal touch ups. It held up to stage fright, hot temperatures, hours of dancing, and lots of smooching on my wedding day. When it dries you can’t feel it on your skin, but you can tell it is doing its job!
This lotion is not cheap. In fact, it’s ridiculously expensive. That said, I continue to buy it. I only use it in an emergency – when every other lotion and skin product in my arsenal won’t fix a skin issue (rash, burn, etc). Then I turn to this stuff and it has worked every single time. For that reason, I keep it around and only use it when desperate so I’m not wasting it on more trivial conditions. After I had both my daughters, I got a horrible rash on my legs that itched like crazy. This lotion is the only product that gave me relief. A little goes a long way and it absorbs nicely with no greasy feel. The link above goes to the travel size because the full size (available here) costs upwards of $40. Try the mini before making a bigger commitment, though I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
Earlier this summer before Hubby’s 40th birthday I went to get my eyebrows waxed. The gal who waxed them took off half my eyebrow on one eye – no joke. I felt so self-conscious. We were heading down to Vegas and I did not want to walk around with only half an eyebrow! My mom loaned me her Wunderbrow to color in my eyebrows and draw in the missing half. No one ever knew I had an incomplete set of eyebrows! This product is longer lasting than most and won’t budge, even in water. While it didn’t last for days (as advertised), it did last all day, even when swimming and sweating in the Vegas heat. I couldn’t rub it off, so I had to remove it in the evenings with oil. This is the perfect product for busy women who don’t want to touch up their makeup during the day!
If you don’t have a Sonicare yet, you need to get one asap. These toothbrushes are amazing at removing plaque and bacteria from your teeth and gums. Not only have I had far less problems with my teeth since investing in my Sonicare years ago, but I am always getting compliments on my smile. Your smile and teeth are some of the first features people notice about you, so make sure you’re proud showing them off! If you’re not ready to invest in the bundle, you can get a solo (and much cheaper) version here.
